on my way to move into the olympic village

I am typing this blog on my new smartphone that the COC gave us while we are at the olympics. it has been great to be able to contact family and friends back home with it.

so right now I am on in a van on the way to the olympic village where I will be staying for the rest of the time that I am here. I am really excited to immerse myself in everything olympic for the rest of the time.

the race yesterday was incredible ... was actually the whole day was. the race went as planned and we succeeded in what we set out to do. it was a great feeling knowing that the team of Simon and I went out with a mission and stuck to our guns and came out on top.

after the race I went to all the media stuff with simon and got to see what happens immediately after you win a medal. we went to the canada house and had a reception there with dinner. afterwards we headed to the IBC (International Broadcasting Centre). Wow. that place is amazing. I got a tour of the CBC offices set up there and where they do all the editing and broadcasting from. I did and interview with the Inside Track (the only podcast that I suscribe to) which was neat! and then we were off to where CBC does their live shows. the view from the studio was amazing. the backdrop that you see on tv is for real. at night all the olympic green area is lit up and it looks stunning. the water cube and the birds nest looked fantastic all lit up. I did a live interview with the french CBC with simon and then got to sign the canada flag that they have set up there that all the athlete that come through sign.

so far my whole olympic experience has been incredible. I want to thank everyone who has sent their congrats and kind words over the past 24 hours. it really means a lot to me to hear the amount of support that we have back in Canada!

well we are just pulling up to the olympic village now! First stop - the food court.

I can't possibly be first :O. Our race report from Blast HQ in the Hammer.

Colin,it was mental at the Lawsons last night. About 15 of the Blast Team watching big screens on two floors. First the satellite feed died due to lightning. We freaked. We then fired up multiple laptops and watched slo mo streaming video until the lightning died. Then back to the big screens just in time to see you lead the peloton. We cheered and clapped and were so proud of you controlling the pack of the best tri guys on the planet. Awesome to see that. I flipped your mom and dad a pic of that.
I think the neighbours thought a riot was going on as we cheered for Simon in the last 500 metres. He is a fabulous athlete and more importantly a genuine sportsman. What a race and what a finish. Most of us have lost our voices.

Colin, you did a fabulous job in Beijing. You put Simon into a winning position and win he did. Thanks for the thrill of a lifetime. Enjoy the rest of your journey. We're all incredibly proud of what you have accomplished for you, your family and Canada.

Colin, I thought your enthusiam for Simon Whitfield was just amazing!! What a partnership between the two of you.

It was just a humbling experience to watch you set the pace for swimming and cycling and to know that you have done your "job" at these olympics. Doesn't just everyone want to win the olympics? But no, you fought for not only your individual pride but for the team! You have made Canada so proud!! To me, you have won more than just a gold medal! You have really demonstrated what it means to be a team player and it is definitely a very good reminder!

Well done and congratulations on your engagement and soon to be marriage!

God Bless,

Congratulations on a fantastic race! I was one of very, very many Canadians screaming and yelling and cheering in front of our TV's and computer screens.

Excellent work and way to make us all proud!

"not winning a medal for yourself, but winning a medal for your country"
you really showed us the meaning of that statement.

Congratulations on an amazing race!! You jumping up and down (waving your arms like you just don't care) across the finish line brought tears to my eyes. Truly proud to have you as a Canadian: it's so rewarding to watch an athlete enjoying the olympic moments.

Colin:
You did a fantastic job. Dedication in sports can mean many different things, but to work so hard to earn a place at the Olympics and then help another win the glory must be even more difficult. I hope that in four years your Olympic moment will come - but for now you are "Gold" in my books.

Colin is the true example of hard work and sacrifice to win a medal, not for himself, but to win a medal for his country. You make Canada and and all who know you so proud!
Colin should be nominated to carry the flag in the closing ceremonies for the Olympics, because he is a shining example of the Olympic spirit! Way to rock, Colin!

Awesome race, Colin! You couldn't have played your role any more perfectly. You went out and kicked ass for Canada, and watching you finish was incredible.

Enjoy your time soaking up the Olympic experience in the village - you've more than earned it.

Colin: I absolutely loved seeing your finish in the triathalon! The Olympics are so special and the eyes of the world are upon you. Sometimes there are moments that capture people's hearts beyond gold medals and world records.
Your finish and the well documented contribution you made to Simon's silver medal is, for me, one of those moments.

I hope you take this as the compliment it is meant to be, but the enthusiasm I think people are feeling for you is comparable to that of Eddie the Eagle, or Eric the Eel, just one of those guys that everyone is cheering for!

You have a huge fan base and I feel so excited for your future. Know that this country stands behind you.

Colin,
I can't add much more to what everyone else has said. I'll just echo their sentiments and say that you epitomized teamwork, trust and sportsmanship this week.
Your final 100m was one of the highlights of the Olympics for me.
True class, enthusiasm, and olympic spirit!
