Colin Jenkins Elected to Triathlon Canada Board of Directors by Peers

One of Canada’s most recognized Olympians not to win a medal, Colin Jenkins, has been elected to Triathlon Canada’s Board of Directors by the organization’s National Team athletes, serving the role as Athlete Representative.

Jenkins, of Hamilton, will forever be remembered for dancing down the home stretch at the Beijing Olympics in what will be regarded as the greatest 50th-place finish at the Summer Games after playing a critical role in helping Canada win its second-ever Olympic triathlon medal.

A strong swimmer and cyclist, Triathlon Canada made a bold selection in naming Jenkins to the 2008 Olympic squad with a plan to designate him as Simon Whitfield’s domestique. Jenkins’ job was simple – help put Whitfield back on the Olympic podium, and he dedicated himself to the task wholeheartedly.

Jenkins allowed Whitfield to maintain pace over the 1.5-kilometre swim course, and repeatedly chased down the breakaways on the 40-kilometre bike with the former Olympic champion drafting behind. Jenkins did everything in his power to help Canada win a silver medal.

A consummate team player who exemplifies what it means to be Canadian, Jenkins is an ideal selection by his former teammates to represent them on Triathlon Canada’s Board of Directors.

Jenkins will replace 2008 Olympic teammate, Carolyn Murray, who has been the athlete representative over the last two years. Carolyn, who is expecting a baby in the New Year, did a wonderful job representing the athletes and we thank her for her contribution to the Board.
